Contacts are non-paying individuals who may have signed up for events you sponsored or those you added into your group for networking purposes. A contact will have very restricted access compared to a member (no access to the group page of a group, will not be targeted in emails only sent to members if the contacts are not selected when composing an email, excluded from event registration access or specific event tickets if the event is set up to only allow members to register).

Managing Group Contacts and Categories as an Officer
As an officer you have the tools to manage all your members and contacts within your group page. Current members are active members within your group. Those under contacts are non-paying individuals with restricted access within the platform who may have signed up for events you sponsored or those you added for networking purposes.
To mange your group contacts, you can do so by these steps:
Go to your Groups page
Left Menu bar and click Members and Contacts
Separate your audience:
You can separate the different types of contacts depending on your group activity with creating member tags or sub-group tags:
Members
Students interested in receiving newsletters
Students interested in taking part of the group's management
Potential members
Potential speakers
Potential sponsors
Advisors, Campus staff, etc.
Event partners, suppliers, rentals, etc.
Situations in which you can collect/save prospects' emails:
Prospects are people who have expressed an interest in your group and are also identified by the following situations:
People signing up for an event, without being a member
Students expressing interest in attending a group presentation, whose emails you have collected and uploaded into CampusGroups even though they have not joined the group yet
Students having registered to your group but not (yet) paid membership (may not be the case when membership dues = $0)
Former members with expired membership, whether they plan to renew or not
CampusGroups has several ways to categorize groups:
Member tags (hidden from members) allow to tag members with tags only accessible to Administrators and Officers of the group
Sub-Groups (opt out/in possible) allow to tag members as well, and tagged members can see how they are categorized
Parent/child feature allows to restrict a group access to people who have joined the group's parent group
Group Types allow divisions to manage separate sets of groups
Difference between a Member and a Contact
There are two high-level membership types, Current Members and Past Members.
Current members are active members of your group. Past members are members whose membership end date has expired.
Those under Contacts are non-paying individuals who may have signed up
for events you sponsored or those you have added in as contacts for networking purposes.
Essentially, a contact will have a very restricted access compared to a member (no access to the group page of a group, will not be targeted in emails only sent to members if the contacts are not selected when composing an email, excluded from event registration access or specific event tickets if the event is set up to only allow members to register...).
