Why do we have a Community?

Can the default channels under community be removed or hidden? 

Yes! If you would like to remove one of the default channels or to create a custom default channel, see Create a Channel (Public or Private). Before deleting a channel, please contact your Campus Success Consultant.

What features are in place to protect student privacy and safety? 

We recommend posting your campus Code of Conduct to the app registration page so that if you need to remove a post or app user, you can reference your Code of Conduct.  Note: To add the Code of Conduct to the registration page, contact your Campus  Success Consultant.  

What information can app users see about other users? 

Note: If the student wants to change their name to a preferred name, please don't hesitate to contact us; we will be happy to assist you.

Where are all the community channels managed? 

 

Is it possible to automate periods during which the Group wall and Channel features are turned off?  

The Channel cannot be automated to turn on and off. This does, however, allow students to engage with your campus’ services and clubs and crowd-source answers outside of regularly scheduled hours within your campus community. 

What escalation procedures are in place if campus administrators need support from Ready Education regarding moderation issues or time-sensitive requests? 

Note: A student can take screenshots of any messages and share them with campus administrators at their discretion to report issues of harassment or any other issues.

Concerns about having the staffing resources to administer and moderate the social features?

The campus community and built-in moderation features will self-regulate once the app has been launched.  

What is the campus’s legal, ethical, and moral responsibility towards students regarding messaging and content within the campus app? 

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA) protects the institution and grants immunity from lawsuits based on the acts of users in online social networks.  

Can we use the Channels for Private Messaging within clubs or groups? 

Clubs and Groups can have their own Private Channels or Groups for members. The app is,  however, designed to increase engagement in the student population, and so any student can join any club, group, athletics club, or orientation program with Walls and membership enabled and view and participate in that group's walls, so it is not designed as a message board for private groups like sororities or fraternities.Â
